Hello! Feel free to like this post for a little starter!

"You forget your daughter’s a hardened criminal that’s committed grand theft auto.“ she replies. It a joke really- albeit on with a bit of truth behind it. A hand is hesitantly held out for the keys, almost expecting his offer to be a joke.

The list of surprises just continues to grow and grow. Him agreeing to this and the offer to let her drive…she has to wonder who this man is and where her father has gone. Or maybe she didn’t know him as well as she thought she did? No no. Time would tell that. Not this single moment. For all she knew, he could up and vanish if she even so much as blinked. Jolyne was close to making a smartass comment about her being seventeen and ‘of course I know how to drive,’ yet that one is held back.

“Oddly enough, I got my license not long after I got out of Juvie.” As those words roll off her tongue she looks away from him. He’s the last person she wants to receive a look of judgement from. She’s gotten enough of those from her classmates, friends and even relatives on her mother’s side of the family. This is a realm she doesn’t want to visit with him- not right now.

“There’s typically a lot of older cars there- all fixed up and shit. Maybe you’ll see some you recognize. If not I’m sure I’ll be able to point out the majority of them.” For him it’s marine biology and her it’s cars and motorcycles. It doesn’t cross her mind how much she sounds like him. “A few bikes too. I’m working on getting a motorcycle license too.”

Jotaro maintains his regular cold expression, the one that doesn’t really imply any emotion other than indifference, but he’s listening to everything Jolyne says. He really can’t help but think that they are very different yet similar at the same time. He remembers little bits and pieces of what she shares with him (lacking the full details). As much as he’d want to reprimand her for stealing, it was in the past, and it wasn’t like he was a pure model citizen in his teenage years either.

“When I was your age I spent a few days in jail,” Jotaro admits, dropping the car keys into her palm. With her age he isn’t too sure of how good of a driver she’ll be, but he has some faith. If anything bad does happen he supposes he can always use Star Platinum to quickly attempt to fix anything. “Don’t crash it. It’s very expensive.” It’s sort of an awkward joke, one that he didn’t know how to deliver or even phrase properly, but he hopes it’s not lost on her since the car is clearly nothing special.

“A motorcycle would suit you,” Jotaro says with a nod, climbing into the passenger seat of his car. He can’t say he’ll know anything about the cars, old or new, because even in his teen years he was more interested in sumo and manga.

“At this car show do you just look at the cars or is there some sort of sale?”

“What?” His words caught her off guard. Her footsteps come to a halt as she whips around to face him. Needless to say her expression’s changed from something sour to general shock with both brows raised as high as they could go. Was…he serious? There’s a moment of silence as she awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck. It was…weird to hear him say that. Hell it was weird to hear him even talk that much. She takes his words into consideration before an idea comes to mind.

“…There’s a car show downtown. I don’t know if you’re into that kinda thing but…” Her sentence dwindles off before a shrug is given. “Unless there’s something else…? That’s not marine biology related…”
There’s an odd mix of emotions- a mix she doesn’t know how to handle. To some degree, she supposes that makes them similar in their own weird way. She always seemed to show a little too much emotion while he always seemed to show so little.

“But it’s whatever. I don’t care as long as I don’t have to look at fish.”

image

“It’s fine. Maybe you can teach me something about cars,” Jotaro says, digging in his pocket for his own keys. The vehicle he brought to the beach is a little beat up and outdated, a sure sign that he doesn’t care much for cars so long as they work.

Her surprise at his words is what stings him a little, but then again he supposes he’s never been the best at expressing that he really does care. If that means he has to walk around looking at fancy cars then he can’t say he minds. Besides, he figures the worst that’ll happen will be Jolyne ignores him to ogle all the expensive cars… or whatever it was that people did at car shows. He didn’t exactly know.

“Do you drive?” he asks out of curiosity, opting to ignore her comments about fish. He’s almost tempted to explain that it’s not just about the fish, but at this point Jotaro’s sure that she’d rather not hear it. On top of that, he doesn’t want to hurt any progress, however small it might be.

“You can drive us there if you’d like.” He sees no harm in that.

“I don’t know, Jotaro.” He clicked his tongue, looking around at the crowds of people near by. It was easy to lose someone. And quick exchanges can be made amongst others. Joseph had vaguely remembered what the thief looked like. They certainly looked like the average person. Which made it harder to track them down in the shopping center.

“It’s likely we aren’t the only ones getting pick pocketed– Keep an eye out for anyone… perhaps in distress because of THEIR missing wallet.” He furrowed his brows, placing his hands on his hips as he brought himself back to focus on his surroundings. As his eyes dragged to a general direction; he noticed something shine brightly. He had to take a second glance. And with that, he discovered a scattered trail of dimes and nickles. This was a CLUE!

“There!” He picked up one of them.

“This guy’s so careless to leave a trace behind!”

image

Huh. That was almost too easy.

One would think someone trying to steal from two buff men well over 6 feet would be a little more careful. Not that Jotaro was going to dish out any punishment on the guy (maybe if he was 17 and had a knack for letting his anger go unchecked), but he was still pretty pissed off since he’d come here to buy his mother a gift and got his wallet stolen.

“We should exercise caution,” Jotaro suddenly says, looking around. Was it just him, or did the number of people seem to be increasing? Regardless, Jotaro shakes the thought and turns his attention to the trail of coins Joseph happened upon.

“I have a feeling that this person wants to be found,” Jotaro says, using Star Platinum’s enhanced eyesight to follow the line of coins, which lead around a corner and to another section of the mall. “After all, it seems it’s really true that Stand Users are naturally drawn to each other. It’s likely a trap, but we don’t really have any choice other than to follow them. What do you think?”

bcllsdeep:

image

“Right…sure sure.” she mutters, rolling her eyes. Of course he didn’t. He didn’t care enough to keep track of time. Not to mention the fact that his stupid notes and research took priority over her. What else had she expected? For him to actually pay attention for once? How naive of her. “Shouldn’t I be asking you that question? You’re the one with an obsession with aquatic life and all. So, dad, you wanna go see the tide pools?”

Jolyne doesn’t even wait for his answer before she turns on her heel and starts trudging towards. She figures they’re not leaving before he at least gets a peek into the silly pools. “But don’t forget to whisper. God forbid we scare away the starfish and the sea urchins!” she calls back, glancing at him. Sarcasm dripped from her over dramatic words.

Perhaps this choice of a bonding attempt wasn’t the best idea. It was obvious that something like this, something so quiet, wouldn’t pique the interest of a teenager. It certainly didn’t help that Jotaro had little to know idea how to talk to his daughter (or that much about her, really). He exhales a sigh as he watches her storm off in the direction of the water, deciding on a different approach.

“What do you to do instead? Do you want to go shopping? Or watch a movie? We can go to Disneyworld if you’d like,” he offers. He really doesn’t intend to come off as rude or mean or however Jolyne’s come to think of him even if it’s his own fault failing to communicate well. He’s trying. He wants to try and mend old wounds and past mistakes. “I want you to be happy and enjoy yourself.”

“ —Wait a MINUTE! That’s mine! I’m sorry, sir, but,
you have my BRIEFCASE! I only set it down for a
mere moment, and then, it was gone.

So why would you have it? I won’t tolerate  theft.

“My apologies,” Jotaro says. He’s already eyeing the other suspiciously, something he’s learned to do with every new person he meets because you never know when you’ll meet an enemy. The blond man (around his age, give or take a few years) doesn’t seem the crooked type, but one could never be too cautious. “I must have gotten them mixed up. You wouldn’t happen to have one that looks similar to this, would you?”

"None of this would have happened if you didn't try to singlehandedly take on a frickin' army!"

image

“An army? I’d hardly consider trying to weave through a crowd at the mall ‘taking on an army’” Jotaro says, nearly scoffing, too, but Joseph looks completely serious. The younger (or older? This stand that affected his grandfather was far too confusing…) isn’t all that used to frequenting shopping centers. When he still lived at home it was always his mother, and once he’d moved and got married it was his wife that took care of those duties. Now, though, Jotaro’s been forced to by pure circumstance.

“Regardless, our issue here is not the so-called army. We have to find that wallet. Any suggestions? There are too many possible suspects around here…”

“Are you done yet? This has gotten boring…
What the hell are you even writing?”
The situation may have not been so bad had he not
been as quiet as he was. That was what really drove
Jolyne insane. Turquoise eyes peek over to look at
whatever in God’s name he was working on.
“Do you have to be so fucking quiet? You could atleast
try and hold a conversation instead of basically
     giving me the cold shoulder.”

image

Time seemed to slip by faster than Jotaro realized when he worked. He thought he’d only spent a minute, maybe two, taking notes on the interacting turtles. Jolyne’s voice was what pulled him out of his trance, spurring him to glance at his watch. His stony expression changed only slightly upon realizing he’d spent 15 minutes here.

“It hadn’t occurred to me how much time passed,” he said, standing. He put his pen and notepad in his pocket as he turned to face Jolyne. “I like to stay quiet and focused when I take notes. On top of that I’d rather not scare them away with too much unnecessary talking. Would you rather check out the tide pools over there?”
