“Patience is a virtue dear “ she spoke far too casually not bothering to even try and be intimdated by  this man’s tall stature.  Walking up to him, almost tip toeing like a cat would, she stared up at him with cold blue eyes.

“I might tell you for a price….of your time “ snickering she tapped her lips gently. “If you share a short meal with me, then I suppose I could return the favor with one small information “

image

“I can’t just pay you with cash and be done with it?” Jotaro asks. He doesn’t want to waste time with small talk over a cup of coffee when he could be getting work done. The thought kind of pisses him off, honestly, and he’s really starting to regret coming to this women with his questions. If she continues to give him a hard time he decides he’ll just ask elsewhere, already glancing around for anyone that looks like they might talk.

“No offense, but I think I’m right to assume I shouldn’t trust you so easily. For all I know, you could be a part of this town’s problem. It’d certainly explain your reluctance to help me.”

“ There has to be something that makes you laugh! ”

Her annoyed countenance is more playful than anything, bubblegum pout dramatized against sunkissed skin. Arms cross over her chest, chatoyant grey eyes meeting his.

“ And as of right now, no, I don’t have anything better to do.

image

“It’s really not that important,” Jotaro repeats. He doesn’t know why she wants to figure out what makes him laugh, but even if he wanted to he couldn’t tell her. He’s not too sure himself as it’s usually moments few and far between. He’s more inclined to crack a smile than laugh, really.

“You can go ahead and try with whatever arsenal of jokes you have, but I can’t promise you anything more than a small smile.”

image

“He’s a good kid,” Jotaro agrees, the smallest of smiles playing at his lips. Yeah, that sounded a lot like his teen uncle. He could be a little hot-headed at times, but he was a dependable guy. Helping others was always right up Josuke’s alley. It’s the second part of that sentence that leaves Jotaro shocked, his interest piqued.

“Do you mean to say he’s your boyfriend? Well like I said, he’s a good kid. Be kind to him.“

“Don’t take me for a fool.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it. A child, perhaps, but not a fool. You’ve proven yourself as otherwise,” Jotaro says, referencing not only the exquisitely decorated room but the worldly chair that Giorno sat in. The cold eyes of the few others in the room do little to change Jotaro’s demeanor. He understands, he supposes. It’s almost funny how this feels like it’s out of some sort of movie.

“You understand why I’m here, right? My friend Koichi let me know that you’re a Stand User. If the Speedwagon Foundation needs your assistance, would you help?”

“And you assume that everyone around here are decent human being ? Very cute “ she spoke with amused snicker escaping her crimson lips. “I do know, more then few people around here, due to my proffession ~”

image

“Of course not. I just figured I should start somewhere,” Jotaro explains, his eyebrows furrowing as he leans more towards the weary side. Her words arouse slight suspicion, especially the mention of her profession, and he doesn’t want to let his guard down. Just in case.

“So are you going to help me or am I wasting my time here?”

“Ah glad to hear that !” relived to hear it was alright to speak about such things she gave slow nod and coy grin. “Well are you maybe related to Higashitaka Josuke friend ? “

image

“He’s my uncle,” Jotaro replies, narrowing his eyes in slight suspicion. She doesn’t appear to be a threat, but one could never be too sure… “How do you know him?”

“I’m a grown man that’s already been married and had a kid. I have a job that keeps me busy and enough friends. I don’t think there’s much left for me to dream about, Hayato,” Jotaro says. He doesn’t intend to sound annoyed or mean, He’s simply speaking his mind. There’s nothing Jotaro dreams about or longs for, at least, not as far as he’s aware. There are some things he desires, sure, but he wouldn’t call those dreams.

“Work is all I have sometimes. It keeps me comfortably busy.”

Ayurnamat - The philosophy that there is no point in worrying about events that cannot be changed.

“That’s in the past, you know. The two of you should get over your differences and stop being so immature,” Jotaro murmurs, voice low and calm yet still the slightest chastising. He doesn’t mean to offend Rohan in any way since the other man is an established adult, but he calls it like he sees it. This hatred between the younger man and his uncle is immature and a hindrance to their search for Kira.

After all, it’s so hard to try and accommodate both Rohan and Josuke’s schedules just to make sure neither of them run into each other while splitting up into investigation pairs. Jotaro thinks he could actually make use of both of them if they weren’t so difficult. He’s aware Josuke is a kid so his words might not get through to him, but Rohan? While the artist is still young there must be some common sense within him–why else would the man have such a successful manga? Surely he’s just being childish about this.

“You’re not the only person that my uncle beat up. His current best friend is among them, and he’s tried to hit me before. As for part of your house burning down… You can’t just accept a payment from the Speedwagon Foundation and let bygones be bygones? You shouldn’t worry over these past trifles that you can’t change, so you might as well be the bigger person.”

A pause, and Jotaro takes a sip of his coffee before continuing.

“Take that as a word of advice.”

Ultracrepidarian - Of one who speaks or offers opinions on matters beyond their knowledge.

“I don’t care if your mother said yes. This is something both of us have to agree on,” Jotaro repeats once again. He can already hear Jolyne’s tongue clicking on the other end of the line, thinking up a rebuttal but Jotaro won’t hear it. He’s the adult here, he knows what he’s talking about. No good could possibly come from Jolyne dating. He honestly had no idea what his ex-wife was even thinking saying yes in the first place. Jolyne was only 14, after all. Shouldn’t she be focusing on school or something?

He doesn’t really know what’s going through Jolyne’s mind (likely something about how Jotaro shouldn’t even have a say since he’s hardly there), but Jotaro knows he’s right about this. There are more important matters than messing around dating. He never dated in high school, so why should he allow Jolyne to do that? Such a thing could unintentionally harm her and he won’t stand for it.

“You’re only 14. Whatever feelings you have for this person are just hormonal. Get over it. You can do anything you’d like when you’re 18, but for now this is my word. Don’t ask me about it again because I won’t change my mind. Goodbye,” Jotaro says curtly, pressing the end call button and immediately placing the phone back down onto his desk.

“Yare yare…” Jotaro mutters, taking his hat off and placing it on his desk as well. He runs his fingers through his hair with a sigh, realizing that if anything that conversation will probably make Jolyne dislike him even more. She hasn’t said it to his face, but Valerie has passed on to him some of Jolyne’s complaints about him and his overwhelming absence from her life. Regardless, Jotaro is just doing what he believes is right in order to keep his daughter safe. He’s already lost so many loved ones but he really doesn’t want to lose his own daughter. If she hates him for it, so be it. He must keep her safe no matter what.
