“I know. I’m just tired of being painted as some sort of bad guy…” her voices trails off to a sigh as she recalls the earlier events of that day. “I caught her ditching school on my way to work. When I asked her why she wasn’t at school she claimed it was boring because she already knew most of the content of her classes.”
“If she insists just let her learn her lesson,” Jotaro states plainly. It’s the best way for her to figure it out, he thinks, even if it is a sort of tough love to let her get arrested or something for constantly ditching school. “I mean, you won’t get in trouble, will you? You could always ground her as punishment, too.”
The irony of the statement almost makes Jotaro want to laugh. When he was Jolyne’s age he was a lot like that. He’s certainly calmed down a lot, but he recalls saying and doing things with the belief that he was totally right (like skipping out on the bill if he wasn’t fond of the meal). He understands how ridiculous he could be back then now, upon reflection, so he supposes it only makes sense that his daughter is similar.
“She’ll grow out of it. They all do,” Jotaro mutters after his brief reminiscing. “What did she even do this time?”
“…” silence was all she could muster, giving a hard glare to her father. But suddenly she would have her arms around him, no questions asked. “Yare Yare Dawa… I missed you old man.”
Jotaro is shocked by the sudden contact, especially since he’s not one used to or very fond of affection. While he does have his rare moments of offering affectionate gestures, it’s something sparse and awkward. He isn’t even too sure why Jolyne is sparing him a hug… He could’ve sworn she’d be more angry at him than this.
“You’re not upset?” He asks, a brow raised as he awkwardly moves a hand up to pat her back. He’s tempted to push her back a little, too, but he figures this embrace is probably something she wants, so it’s the least he can do. He wants his daughter to be happy, really.
